Hon’s Wun Tun House

Since the restaurant sits on the border of the Financial District and Chinatown, it’s frequented by both by locals and downtown workers. At $6 a bowl, it makes for an affordable place to duck in for wonton noodle soup on the mostly chilly San Francisco days. Hon’s Wun-Tun House has been a go-to for wonton soup for more than 40 years, and we’re glad they’ve stuck around for so long. It’s a Chinatown spot ideal for a quick lunch and serves generously filled pork and shrimp wontons with stringy noodles and a supremely slurpable broth.

There’s a range of meat options, too, but we like the semi-sweet BBQ pork and the fall-apart beef brisket. The crispy scallion pancakes are a great appetizer, if you want to lengthen your meal, but you’re more likely to be in and out of this place in twenty minutes flat. Their noodle station faces Kearny street, where pots of hot water fog up the front window where the cook heats up the noodles and wontons.
